Review by: Laura Ginn, U.K. smartphone enthusiast
Just a quick note: In the U.S., this phone is known as the LG Thrill 4G . . . Discontinued by AT&T, you will need to find a used model. This can equate to a lot of value.
With so many different mobile telephones to choose from, how are you supposed to know which one is the best value? The first thing you should do before a purchase is to write out a list of the features you want your new phone to have. That way, the decision making process won’t be so mindboggling.
LG Optimus 3D Key Features
The LG Optimus 3D’s most important components are its ARM A9 dual core 1Ghz processor, 512MB RAM, 4.3inch screen, and 5.0 megapixel stereoscopic camera. This phone was first previewed at the MWC. Because of that event, it was expected to turn into a big seller for its manufacturer LG. It comes with the Android operating system, which is designed and built by Google.
Why this phone is special
If you are a 3D fan, then you know exactly why this phone has become admired. It has a glasses-free 3D display screen that is one of the best in the industry. In addition, it comes with two stereoscopic cameras that allow you to shoot both 3D videos and still pictures. While it does take some time experimenting with it before you are able to use everything that it offers at the highest level, it is not nearly as complicated as it might initially seem to be.
The LG Optimus 3D size
If you have small hands, you might want to try it out the phone for a while, before you decide to purchase it. The phone itself is 127mm by 66mm (5 inches x 2.6 inches), which was very large by 2011 standards. In order to get all of the components into the phone that makes it 3D, the manufacturer had to build it this large.
Quality of manufacturing
LG makes some really neat gadgets; unfortunately they do not always use the most expensive and best parts to manufacture all of their products. The LG Optimus 3D is made using what appears to be some really cheap plastic parts, that could potentially fall apart. But, the camera and other components that make the phone and screen operable all look to be first class. So, just like every other company that makes a product, they had difficult decisions to make regarding the amount of money they could put into the phone, versus what they could sell it for.
Is the LG Optimus 3D worth the money?
Without question, if you really want a mobile phone that provides 3D capabilities, a used LG Optimus 3D in very good condition will almost certainly be worth the price.
